Funen - Inspiring Beauty, Fairy Tale Allure

Discover a magical destination like Funen, one of the most beautiful islands in Denmark. 

 Known as the “garden isle,” it has inspired writers and music composers to create amazing works. 

Funen is best seen on foot or on bicycle.  It’s a place to admire the scenery of seaside resorts, sprawling hills and small towns dotted with 16th century churches, picturesque houses and 17th century cobbled stone streets.  But if soaking up the rays is on your list of priorities, the pristine beaches of Langeland are sure to impress.

A visit to Funen would not be complete without exploring Tranekaer, the site of a stunning castle constructed in the year 1200.  Once there make sure to see the iron chests dating to the 16th century and the magnificent paintings depicting the battles against Sweden in the 1600s. 

And if you’re wondering what to do when the sun goes down, the options are limitless.  There’s everything from symphony orchestra performances to an amazing casino.    

Do take time to savor Scandinavian cuisine at renowned restaurants like Dem Gamle Kro with its removal glass roof, an antique wine cellar and a sublime menu with specialties like herb seasoned trout.  Or opt for other establishments such as Sortebro Kro, offering the culinary talents of Dane Chef John Kofod and the sumptuous décor that characterizes most of these establishments.

Fret not about shopping opportunities.  With names like Georg Jensen and Royal Copenhagen, your credit cards will have no chance for rest.  And do check out the boutiques selling Viking jewelry, vintage Christmas ornaments, silk screens and other treasures.  If large shopping centers appeal to you, the center of Rosengard with 110 retailers will provide you with hours of limitless fun.
