Vacations come and go. Some are even forgotten over time. Vacationing in beautiful Albufeira, Portugal, does not fit into this category. A trip to Albufeira will stay ingrained in your memory for years to come. Albufeira, located in Algarve along the southern coast of Portugal, is one European city not to miss. Since the 1970’s, this Portuguese city has been an increasingly popular vacation spot, for both Europeans and non-Europeans alike. Its location is ideal for summer fun, and even its winter temperatures draw in the crowds. But summer reigns supreme in this coastal town when tourists flock its shores. And one place that must be visited is its endless beaches. With over 20 strikingly beautiful white sandy beaches, the hardest decision you’ll need to make is which beach to relax the day away on. Perhaps the most popular beach, and rightly so, is Praia dos Prescadores, or Fishermans beach. Its red cliffs and amazing rock formations make this beach stand out amongst the competition. But if you’re looking for some peace and quiet during those hot summer months, try some of the other spectacular beaches that dot the landscape further down the coast such as the endless sandy shores of Gale beach. After a full day relaxing in the Portuguese sun, you’ll be ready for some nightlife in this southern Portuguese resort town. Visit the city’s nightlife area, affectionately called “The Strip.” Here you will find numerous bars, nightclubs and restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Portuguese cuisine. One of the favorites is fish, cooked in a potpourri of Middle-Eastern spices and olive oil. And once your appetite is satiated, don’t forget about stopping in the numerous gift stores that line the strip. But if you’re looking for a more sedate location that offers just as many restaurants, bars and shops, then wander on over to the Old Town section of the city. Stroll through its meandering streets and take in the sights and sounds of this quaint, newly renovated pedestrian friendly area. And if you get tired, sit and relax in one of the many outdoor cafés that surround the refurbished Center Square. Albufeira is one vacation spot that promises an unforgettable, yet relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle of modern-day life. |
